Psychosis: Narrating a Man in Free Fall
A psychological thriller by Tony Marturano, and one of my proudest audiobook performances.
The brief
Psychosis follows Marco, a disgraced therapist who moves to a Cornish fishing village and begins to doubt what is real. He is sarcastic, flawed and an unreliable narrator, and the whole story is told from inside his head.
The performance
Over nearly sixteen hours the listener has to stay with Marco through anger, humour, confusion and fear, without ever being sure whether to trust him. That meant pacing the twists carefully and keeping his voice believable as his grip on reality slips.
Listeners have kept discovering the book for years since its 2017 release, and the Performance rating on Audible sits higher than the Story rating.
